Did you know a German fighter pilot once saved an American bomber in World War Two? Yes! It happened in 1943. Charlie Brown's B-17 bomber was practically destroyed and flying alone. So why didn't the German pilot just shoot him down? That pilot was Franz Stigler. He saw the helpless crew and remembered his mentor's code of honor. Wait, so he just let them go? Even crazier, Franz escorted the damaged bomber all the way to the North Sea so his own guns wouldn't shoot them. That is insane. Did they ever meet again after the war? For forty years, Charlie searched for the mystery pilot. They finally reunited in 1990. No way, they actually found each other? They became best friends. They wrote letters, traveled together, and died just months apart in 2008. That is easily the most wholesome war story ever. It shows that humanity can still exist even in the middle of a brutal war.
