Block buster was the undisputed king, boasting nine thousand stores nationwide. Netflix was a tiny DVD-by-mail service, bleeding cash and desperate for a lifeline. Netflix f ounders flew to Dallas, sat in a boardroom, and made their pitch. Blockbuster executives literally laughed them out of the room. They called Ne tflix a small fantasy business, not worth t heir time. But instead of folding, Netflix wen t t o work. They doubled down and pioneered online video streaming. Blockbuster ignored the digital shift until it was entire ly to late. Today, Netflix is a two hundred billion dol lar empire. And Blockbuster is reduced to a single store i n Oregon. The lesson is brutal bu t simple. If you refuse to disrupt y ourself...someone else will gladly do it for you.
