There are billions of planets wandering through the pitch black, completely untethered to any star. These are rogue planets, cast out into the freezing void by intense gravity. Without a sun, they drift in absolute darkness, invisible to our telescopes. They are cosmic orphans, frozen solid on the outside. Yet, deep beneath their thick, icy crusts, geothermal heat keeps oceans liquid. Hydrothermal vents on the sea floor spew warm nutrients into the dark water. In these pitch-black seas, alien life could be thriving in total isolation. These creatures would have no concept of day, night, or a sky. To them, the entire universe is just a cold, silent ocean. And billions of these dark, living worlds are rushing through our galaxy right now. One of them could be silently heading directly toward our solar system. And we wouldn't see it coming until it was already too late.
