A simple act of kindness can cost you your life. Inside a sun-drenched neighborhood market, a quiet tragedy was brewing. An orange carrot stood nervously at register four, clutching his basket. Inside lay heavy cream, vanilla wafers, and bags of sugar. The cashier announced the total: six dollars and forty cents. Carrot searched his pockets, only finding four crumpled dollar bills. Embarrassed, he stared down at the wooden counter. Directly behind him stood a bright, cheerful banana, smiling warmly. Feeling generous, the banana stepped forward with a five-dollar bill. He slid the cash across, covering the missing difference. Carrot whispered a quick thanks and grabbed his bag. He hurried out the door into the warm afternoon. Curious and friendly, the banana followed him to the curb. He asked what delicious dessert needed wafers and heavy cream. The carrot stopped walking and slowly turned around. He looked the naive banana directly in the eyes. With a cold voice, he whispered his recipe: Banana pudding.
