Did you know India's nuclear program started with a vision for peace — not bombs? In 1948, just one year after independence, Homi Bhabha convinced Nehru to launch the Atomic Energy Commission. Bhabha dreamed of nuclear energy powering a newly free nation — lifting millions out of poverty. But after China's nuclear test in 1964, India's calculus changed forever. In 1974, India detonated its first nuclear device — codenamed 'Smiling Buddha' — in the Rajasthan desert. The world was shocked. India had joined the nuclear club — entirely on its own terms. Then in 1998, Pokhran-II — five tests in three days — announced India as a full nuclear power to the world. From a dream of peaceful energy to strategic sovereignty — India's nuclear story is proof that a nation with vision is unstoppable.
