Do hackers really just mash random keys to break into top secret databases? Not at all. We actually rely on highly specialized tools to test security. What about Shodan? I've heard people call it the Google for hackers. It is. Shodan searches the internet for connected devices like cameras and routers. Okay, so what does the famous Wireshark tool actually do? It captures and lets you analyze live network traffic to see passing data. And how do security pros crack and test passwords? We use John the Ripper to quickly find weak, easy-to-guess passwords. Is there a specific tool for testing WiFi networks? Definitely. Aircrack-ng analyzes wireless signals to check for weak WiFi setups. What is the absolute best tool for launching exploits? Metasploit is the top framework used to safely test known system vulnerabilities. Do you have to install all of these separately? Nope. Kali Linux is an operating system that comes preloaded with them. That sounds like an amazing all-in-one toolbox for learning. It is, but remember to only practice on systems you own.
